1966 - NANCY SINATRA - Boots (Reprise)

L'inizio non poteva che essere questo. Scritta da Lee Hazlewood, questa é la prima e insuperata versione di "These Boots Are Made For Walking", tutte le altre - a decine - si mettono in coda. Degne però di menzione quelle di Destroy All Monsters e Pure Hell.

Nota a margine: gli stivali indossati da Nancy Sinatra sono di Beth Levine.

THE START! Written by Lee Hazlewood, this is the first - and best - version of the song. All the others are second best; among them our vote go to Destroy All Monsters and Pure Hell.

By the way: the boots were designed by Beth Levine.

Album di debutto del nipote di Hank Williams. Un punk-rocker che suona country (non sempre). Magnifica copertina opera di Jim Herrington fotografo per Esquire, Vanity Fair, New York Times, Maxim e soprattutto ritrattista. 

Debut album from the grandson of Hank Williams. A punk-rocker who plays country, not always though. Great cover shot by Jim Herrington, photographer for Esquire, Vanity Fair, New York Times, very well known for beautiful portraits.

Ancora stivali in una delle più classiche e conosciute foto di Ed Colver. Il disco raccoglie i primi due singoli e il primo album. I maestri dell’hardcore melodico.

1973 - NEW YORK DOLLS - New York Dolls

Omonimo e fenomenale debutto dei padrini del punk fotografati dal giapponese Toshi, noto (?) negli anni '70 per le copertine di Vogue. Trucco & parrucco sono costati $ 900, quasi più della registrazione del disco. 

Ground-breaking debut album from the godfathers of punk. Cover shot by Toshi, a Japanese well known (?) for Vogue's covers in the '70s. Budget for hair & make-up was $ 900, almost as much as the recording costs (not really, but close).

1992 - POSSUM DIXON - Nerves 7"

(Surf Detective Records/Flipside Records)

Semi sconosciuto e sfortunato gruppo power-pop/punk di Los Angeles. Singolo PREZIOSO che avrebbe meritato miglior fortuna. Copertina disegnata dal cantante/bassista Rob Zabrecky.

Way underrated power-pop/punk band from LA. A GREAT 7”! Design and layout by singer/bass player Rob Zabrecky.  

1955 - CARL PERKINS - Blue Suede Shoes

Quella di Elvis é la cover meno riuscita. I cultori delle blue suede shoes avranno molto apprezzato “Il mio Amico Eric” di Ken Loach. Noi pure.

Elvis’cover was good but not really up to par. Blue suede shoes hardcore fanatics found their favourite piece of gear in “My Friend Eric” directed by Ken Loach. And they loved it.

Quartetto punk/new-wave londinese dalla breve vita. Primo e miglior singolo. Contraltare europeo dei Dickies. Disegno di copertina di F.ART.

2010 - DE HøJE HæLE - Skal vi aldrig videre?

Da Copenaghen, una delle rivelazioni dell’anno. Non lontani dai Doll, ma senza tastiere e più chitarre. Fantastici. Il nome significa “Tacchi A Spillo”.

From K-Town, Denmark, one of the year’s best. Not far from The Doll with more guitars and no keyboards. The name means “The High Heels”.

1992 - BEN VAUGHN - Mono

Superbo campionario rock&roll/surf registrato benissimo - in mono. E’ la stampa originale italiana; la successiva versione americana ha una diversa copertina. Foto e scarpa (Vans) di Ben Vaughn.

Eccellente album di debutto di Joe Jackson. Le scarpe Denson, nuovissime, sono state consegnate al fotografo per ulteriori scatti promozionali e successivamente scomparse nel nulla.

1995 - RON HOLLOWAY - Struttin'

Ron Holloway (sax-tenore) ha suonato con i grandi (Gillespie, Rollins, Hubbard) e qui omaggia Sonny Clark. La copertina non é raffinata come quella di Wolff, ma nemmeno disprezzabile.

Tenor-saxofonist Ron Holloway worked with the greats (Gillespie, Rollins, Hubbard) and here pays homage to Sonny Clark.  The cover is not as stylish as Wolff's but pretty decent overall. No info about the photographer.
