Il calzaturificio Brunis fu fondato a Vigevano da Bruno Barbavara e dalla moglie Ines nel 1945. Barbavara, insieme ad altri artigiani vigevanesi, fu tra i primi a sviluppare modelli di calzature col tacco a spillo, che furono presentati alla 16esima Mostra Mercato Internazionale delle Calzature di Vigevano già nel gennaio 1953.
The Brunis shoe factory was founded in Vigevano by Bruno Barbavara and his wife in 1945. Barbavara, along with other Vigevano’s artisans, was among the first to develop models of shoes with the stiletto heel, showcased at the 16th International Footwear Exhibition of Vigevano in January 1953.

Nel 1964 gli fu conferito dall'Accademia Internazionale della Calzatura di Torino il primo premio Coppa Salp per le creazioni femminili e l'anno successivo arrivò l'Oscar per la categoria "Fantasia creativa femminile". Un successo ribadito ancora nel 1966 con la medaglia d'oro "a riconferma della qualità artistica e qualitativa della produzione".
In 1964 Brunis was awarded by the International Footwear Academy of Turin the first prize "Coppa Salp" for its women's production and the year after it came an Oscar for the category "Creative phantasy for women." A success repeated again in 1966 with the gold medal "to confirm the artistry and quality of production".
