La storia di Nicolas Greco cominciò nel modo più classico per i bottier parigini d’inizio ‘900. Origini italiane, siciliane per l’esattezza (ma la località rimane sconosciuta), lavoro appreso dal padre per tradizione familiare e trasferimento all’estero per cercare maggiore fortuna. Nato nel 1877, Greco arrivò ventitreenne a Parigi Greco arrivò nel 1900, anno dell’Esposizione Universale.
Nicolas Greco’s history is typical of the last early century bottiers. Born in 1877 in Sicily (birthplace still unknown), following the family tradition, he learnt his trade from his father, then he went abroad to find his career. He arrived in Paris in 1900, the year of Universal Expo. He was 23 years old.

A Parigi restò solo un paio di anni, lavorando presso alcuni produttori di calzature. Nel 1902 lavorò sei mesi a Londra presso i Maikoff Brothers e poi fu di nuovo in Francia. Nel 1904 riuscì ad aprire la sua prima bottega, in Rue Douai, 18, con una manciata di collaboratori. L’anno successivo espandeva l'attività trasferendosi in un altro negozio al n.14 della stessa via. Prima della guerra arrivò ad avere una cinquantina di impiegati e oltre quaranta operai.
Greco stayed in Paris a couple of years working for different shoemakers. Then he went to London, where he worked at the Maikoff Brothers for six months upon returning to France. In 1904 he opened his own workshop in Paris, Rue Duai 18, with a handful of workers. A year later he was already branching out and moving to another shop down the road (street number 14). Right before the War he managed about fifty employees and forty workers.

Dopo la Guerra, nel 1918, si trasferì nella nuova sede in Rue des Capucines n 4; nel 1920 aprì un negozio a Nizza, e l’anno successivo altri negozi nelle località più mondane di Francia, Deauville, Biarritz, Cannes; nel 1927 aggiunse anche la sede di Aix-les-Bains. La società ufficialmente si chiamava Compagnie française des établissements Gréco, Chaussures.
After the war, in 1918, he moved to the new headquarter, in Rue des Capucines, 4. The official name of the company was Compagnie française des établissements Gréco, Chaussures. He opened a new shop in Nizza in 1920 and a year later in luxurious seaside towns: Deauville, Biarritz, Cannes. Aix-les-Bains opened in 1927.

Nel 1934 acquisì la società di un’altra famiglia di bottier con origini italiane, la
Ducerf Scavini e nel 1936, con una moderna politica di marketing, lanciò la linea di calzature
Grecosport, modelli pronti per tutte le esigenze sportive.
In 1934 he bought the company of another bottier of Italian origins, the Ducerf Scavini et Fils and his connections with other Italians shoemakers continued with Capobianco, who learnt his job at Greco.
Greco launched in 1936 a line called Grecosport, ready-to wears models for sport occasions and continued his activities up to World War II.
