Those high-fashioned, high platformed shoes tripping over the sidewalks of the nation this season would seem to rate a more critical safety appraisal, suggests the Health Insurance Institute. 
Dr. Elizabeth Roberts of Manhattan points out that most of the straps on platform shoes are one-piece affairs encircling the ankle and making for an unstable gait.
"It is," says Dr. Roberts, "the potential for a major catastrophe."
