IAN RILEN ha fondato gli X, quelli di Sydney, (solo omonimi di quelli di Los Angeles) il cui "Aspirations" (1980) é un caposaldo del punk-rock di tutte le epoche. Nel '77 Ian era appena uscito dall'esperienza Rose Tattoo: ha creato il gruppo e lo ha abbandonato subito dopo perché troppo leggeri per i suoi gusti.
Volatile, poliedrico e con una voce roca e profonda; il suo "Passion Boots & Bruises", pur lontano dai suoni degli X, é un disco ROCK, possente e distorto, costruito sul blues elettrico e con citazioni preziose alla Beefheart. Prima o poi qualcuno lo scoprirà. Anche la copertina é perfetta, ma qui lo ricordiamo perché Ian Rilen é morto 5 anni fa oggi il 30 Ottobre 2006 a causa di un tumore.
IAN RILEN was the X founder - Sydney's X (not Los Angeles' X) - whose "Aspirations" is an all time punk-rock cornerstone. Back in '77 he bailed out of Rose Tattoo, cofounded by him, because their choice of music wasn't hard enough.
Volatile, multitalented with a deep, gravel voice; his "Passion Boots & Bruises" although distant from the X sound is a ROCK album, powerful, distorted, soulful, built on the blues with Beefheartism here and there. Sooner or later it will be discovered. Even the cover is perfect, but here, we'll remember Ian Rilen because he passed away five years ago today - September, 30 2006 because of cancer.
