When I was preparing the film I thought: I get to make a movie with lots of beards. And then when we were doing research: no beards, only the military and bums had beards. Everyone was clean shaved ... - I was very disappointed - ... Deborah Nadoolman, my wife, designed the movie and she is very accurate ... making the movie people asked "What's your movie about?" well, it' s about hats and candles, and by the way all the hats were made in Rome. Oops, sorry, I forgot the name of the company but it's in the credit.

ALSO not mentioned by Landis, there's another historical Italian company called POMPEI which supplied all the shoes. Founded in 1937 by the cousins Luigi and Ernesto Pompei from the Marche region, POMPEI is an official supplier of Cinecittà (THE Italian Studios) and it seems that their collection is made up of 900.000 pair of shoes.
