Quelle due scarpe erano un regalo per il migliore ciabattino di Roma che gli chiedeva sempre cos'era il futurismo. Sulla suola di una delle due scarpe, quella non decorata, la dedica al ciabattino mostrava la differenza tra normale e la decorazione data dal pensiero futurista. 

These two wooden lasts were Balla's gift to the best cobbler in Rome who kept asking him the meaning of Futurism. The explanation is the decoration (or lack thereof) on the last.
